The Post-Thanksgiving Life of Phoenix Air Conditioning Units

Now that all your relatives have gone home and life returns to normal, it is time to consider what's going on with your Phoenix air conditioning units this time of year. December is a time of year for ornaments and candy canes, hot chocolate and ugly sweaters. It is a time for some more family celebrations (yes, more quality time with relatives). But it's also a time for the AC in your house to turn off and the heater to turn on. Over the summer you probably heard a lot about air conditioning and how it works, but it isn't really a time to focus on the heating part of your residential Phoenix air conditioning units.

So how does your Phoenix air conditioning units heat your home? Well, an air conditioner cools an area by using a compressible refrigerant to extract energy from the environment in your home and push it to the outside. This works because the energy in your home is absorbed into compressed liquid refrigerant, making it expand into a gas, which is then pushed back into a liquid which kind of squeezes out the heat, a little like squeezing water out of a sponge. So when the AC is cooling your home, it's actually also heating the outside. So if you run this process in reverse, you can heat your home! This is just one way to heat a home. Other common methods involve burning things. Some heaters work by using a fire or electric heating element to heat air and then distributing that air through the home. Both methods work to help keep your home warm and comfy on cold nights.

Phoenix air conditioning units get a lot more focus on their air conditioning abilities. They definitely need them during the summer, and you could probably live without heating during the winter (but it would definitely be cold!). But still, what can you do to have your home ready to keep you warm this holiday season? Well, it is good to know what kind of system you are dealing with. If you have a heating system that basically reverses your air conditioning, then you should have an AC technician out to inspect and service your system to keep it running optimally. More likely you'll have a heating system that depends on a heating element. These also require inspection and regular maintenance, so it's still necessary to have that done by a qualified technician. Don't cut any corners in making sure you home is ready to keep you happy through the holidays.
